Our first destination in travel together was Thailand.  It was the first stop of our RTW trip in 2006.  We used Thailand as a base to travel around South East Asia, visiting Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.  During the frequent trips into Thailand we quickly explored Khoa San Road, and spent much longer at the other, more exciting areas of Bangkok, we visited Chris, our friend in Hua Hin, went on a jungle trek in Chiang Mai, visited Chiang Rai, the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) meet, sadly saw our first ever dead body (corpse) on Koh Chang, dived in Koh Tao, and spent one night in Phuket.

In 2010 we returned to meet up with my brother, Tom, who now lives in Sydney.  We travelled extensively over 4 weeks, visiting, Hua Hin, Kanchanburi, Krabi, Railey, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui, finishing in Bangkok where we stayed in our first ever 5 star hotel – Plaza Athenee, A Royal Meridien Hotel.  During this trip, Darren and I got engaged 🙂

Planning our wedding, we looked at a number of honeymoon destination.  We couldn’t agree on one, so returned in April 2012 for 4 weeks.  It was a difficult journey, just a few weeks before we had gone skiing in France, and I had fallen from a ski lift, breaking my coccyx and damaging my spine.  Still, we travelled around Thailand once again.  We spent our fist night in an old guesthouse in the middle of trat, ready for our journey across the waters for week in a beautiful beachfront bungalow in Koh Kood.  Next stop, a few days in Hua Hin with our best man, Jack with his Dad Chris and some other of our friends, a few days in Pattaya, a trip to the old capital of Ayutthaya, some wonderful nights in the Royal Orchid Sheraton Resort & Towers Hotel, and spent an evening celeb spotted at the amazing St. Regis Hotel, Bangkok, where we finished off our honeymoon in style.

2014 saw us return to Bangkok to meet Tom and his girlfriend, Dee.  Our first job, to safely deliver Jack to his Dad in Hua Hin, where we spent a couple of nights together.  After 2 weeks in Vietnam, we returned to Bangkok, and the Plaza Athenee hotel for a final few nights of luxury before heading home.  We also checked out the Sky Bar at the Lebua Tower Hotel.

This year has seen us book another trip to Thailand on a whim.  Our shortest ever trip to Asia to rest from our hectic 7 day week schedule at home found us flying out to Bangkok for 2 weeks with Emirates on our first ever business class flight.  After a quick stop off in Hua Hin for an obligatory visit to Chris, we had a hideous ride on the Lomprayah catamaran to Koh Tao and relaxing stay at Chintakiri Resort.  After an equally hideous ride on the Sea Trans Express to Koh Samui, we had a lovely stay at Pandora Lifestyle Hotel, and visited Darren’s friend Bryn, who took us out for the day to discover some lesser known areas of the Island, including lunch at the very lovely Sweet Sisters cafe.  After losing to a 4×4 on the road, and having to visit the Koh Samui International Hotel (luckily we got away VERY lightly) we were pleased to spend the last four nights relaxing and recovering in three Starwood hotels: Aloft Bangkok, Westin Grande Sukhumvit and Le Meridien Airport hotel.

On each occasion we have visited Thailand, we have mentioned that we would both love to move out there.  So, for the next year, we are selling up and saving up for a move that we hope will find us living in a condo in the heart of Bangkok for 6 months and in a beach front bungalow on one of Thailand’s beautiful islands!  Heres to 2015, and another list of places visited!
