As we near the end of a lovely break in Spain, today’s long overdue post shares our current progress in Pego.
Tonight, Darren and I are sat in our main living area. We’re enjoying a G&T and admiring what we’ve achieved so far in this room. It’s by no means finished, but it resembles a kitchen, lounge and dining room. It’s a long way from the derelict town house which we bought back in 2016. It finally feels like a holiday home.

Our Sixth Renovation Begins: A Video Tour
If you haven’t seen this blog before, you can have a good nosy round by watching the video linked above, or reading some of the other posts about our sixth renovation, affectionately referred to as Project Pego. There are also plenty of video updates on our youtube channel.
We now have a new roof (holy cow that took some work), replacement beams, new walls, new windows, new patio doors, a new dorma, and new floor, new plumbing and electrics. We have the makings of a very nice kitchen, and adjacent utility. We even have a photo from our round the world travels up on the wall. However, despite 4 visits to Ikea, two deliveries and plenty of phone calls, we still have a few parts missing. We’re now considering collecting these from Southampton to bring on over!
We still don’t have any lights, the floor has a nice bounce to it, and navigating the steps to the terrace is a little dodgy, but the room is clean and useable. It’s totally exceeding all expectations – especially when I imagine some funky ass wallpaper on a few of the walls, a couple of huge lights dangling down, and the room filled with friends and family having a good time. I’m looking forward to some bursts of colour, a bright green sofa, and huge dining table. Apparently, I have to wait a while for this….
Our plan this trip was not to do any renovating, but we have done a few little jobs. We’ve cut the worktops in, fitted the sink and tap, and collected 42 boxes of tiles so we can lay the terrace flooring next time we come. It means we are a few more steps along on this gigantous project.
Just not as may as if we hadn’t have been taking selfies at the beach. Then again, that’s the idea of a holiday home!

Update 2026: Turns out, those ‘bursts of colour’ never materialised. We never did get a new sofa, or a huge dining table, but as we move onto our next project, we might just finally replace our 11 year old, and some what uncomfy sofa bed that was never intended to be more than temporary…
